Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower-15 hp., craftsman riding lawn mower, hp kohler

Question
I have a 15 hp Kohler motor Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower.  The problem I'm encountering is, when the mower isn't running gas gets into the oil.  Could the electronic part on the bottom of the carb be the problem?  I would appreciate any information you may have on this subject.

Thank you for your insight.

Answer
The most likely problem is the inlet needle.  Depending on your engine model number, you may have a brass float and a replacable inlet needle seat as well.

If the inlet needle has what looks like a rubber tip then the seat is probably not replacable...just replace the inlet needle.  If you have as all metal inlet needle you will have to replace the inlet needle as well.  I would also check the float to make sure it does not have a pin hole in it.

An alternate solution is to just install a fuel shut-off valve in the fuel line.  Cheap, easy to install and works everytime as long as you remember to shut-off the fuel when you are done mowing.

Let me know if this helps.
