Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawn tractor quits when hit a bump, white lawn tractor, hp briggs

I have an old white lawn tractor model gt-185 144u836h190 18 hp briggs 350777 1034a1 95012711. all saftey switches are bypassed and a couple of wires broken but it has mowed and ran great for the 3 years that i've had it, untill today. it started shutting off when i hit a bump. I could get it started by shaking the wires around and it would last for awhile. now shaking does'nt help. Found a new broken red with black wire from alt. wiring diaghram does't show where it goes. any ideas will be appreciated. always turns over just won't start.

Which alternator do you have?  Refer to this link:

You may have to scrape some paint off the alternator wires to identify your alternator.

Let me know which alternator you have.
