Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): weedwacker, craftsman weedwacker, starter rope

I have a Craftsman weedwacker,2-cycle, 32cc and the problem is when I pull the starter rope, the rope does not rewind very well, sometimes not good at all.  I'm thinking maybe that its the "spring-starter".  What do you think???
If that's what it is, can the spring just be silicone sprayed or WD-40, or does it have to be replaced???

Dirt and trash can buildup around the starter spindle and cause problems like you have. Use compressed air and blow it out real good, then you can apply a lubricant like WD-40 to free it up. Don't worry about using too much. You may have to lubricate it several times. Hope this helps.
