Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs and Stratton 31C707-0026, scotts lawn tractor, briggs and stratton

Question
I have a Scotts lawn tractor made by John Deere. I blow up the engine and would like to replace it. The tractor came with a model # 31F707 Type # 0112E1. I can not find this engine. The recommended replacement is the 31G707- 0026. I saw some information that said you could also use the 31C707-0026. When I look at the specs it gets a little confusing. I basically want to bolt the replacement on and get back to mowing. The 31C707 appears to be the cheaper of the two soI would prefer to use that one. Will it work?

Answer
Have you visited the Briggs website?

Both engines will be a direct replacement for your application.  The more expensive engine may have an oil filter which is considered an upgrade.

For a home owner, I would opt for the less expensive engine.

Let me know if this helps.
