Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower want start, needle valve, spark plug

Question
I have a Craftsman 6.5 push lawn mower. I tried starting the lawn mower on Sunday. I primed the lawn mower like you are supposed to do. It started and it sounded like it was not idling right. The lawn mower was smoking. Then it just shut down. I tried to restart it but unable to restart it. I waited like 20 minutes and tried again and nothing. I waited an hour and tried again and nothing. The same again 4 hours later. So on Monday I tried and it started it with the same issue of smoking and not idling right it sound like it was about to shut down and then it did still unable to start the lawn mower as of this morning. I changed the spark plug thinking that was the problem but it is still not working. So what do I need to do?

Answer
Hi Bruno
You stated that the engine was smoking but did not say what color the smoke was. If it was a black smoke, the problem is in the carb and the engine is getting too much fuel (flooding). The carb needs to be removed and cleaned making sure all jets and ports are open. You did not say what engine you have but if it has a needle valve and float, replace the needle valve also. Be sure and check the float to make sure there is no liquid inside. Hope this helps.
