Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): scotts mower with briggs and strratton engine, engine model type, govenor

I have a scotts 2046 (20 hp with 46 inch cut) twin.  Approx 10+years old and normally cutting over an acre during the mowing season.  While mowing the engine all of a sudden went to maximum (or over maximum) revs.  I think the engile limiter/govenor probably has gone kaput.  Any thoughts?

What is the engine model, type and code number?  Did the governor spring break?
