Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere RX95 Battery wire get hot, ground connections, key switch

Question
Hi,
If I keep the battery's wire connected my John Deere RX95 battery wire gets very hot even when the engine is not running and drains the battery because of that I have to disconnect the positive side of the terminal when it's sitting. What do you think the problem is what should I check. Your quick response will be appreciated. Thank you

Answer
You appear to have a bad key switch.  Use a voltmeter to look for current coming out of the switch.  There should just be the one wire with 12 volts when the switch is turned off.  If there are more, then replace the switch.

You could also have a bad solenoid.  Is it getting warm when the switch is off?

Even with a bad switch, it shouldn't be getting so hot.  So go through and check all ground connections and the cable connections on the battery.  Let me know what you find.  Thanks, PK.
