Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler/JD engines, l900, bolt hole

Our JD L100 is down and it will cost $900.00 to repair, which is what we paid for it. Will a Kohler 12.5hp engine fit and work on our JD? The Kohler ran a 38 inch deck and ours is a 42 inch, if that matters. Thanks for the help.

What engine was on the JD L900?  If the L900 engine had more HP you may notice a lack of power when cutting with the smaller engine.

To verify the fit, you need to measure the output of the crankshaft to make sure they are the same diameter, length, same key ways and bolt hole/threads.

Also, the engine footprint, including the mounting holes need to be measured to ensure they are the same.
