Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 16.5 hp Briggs Engine, oil in breather

Question
My toro zero turn mower just start blowing blue smoke out the exhaust, when you turn in circles or you hit a high patch of grass, it almost stalls out then if you stop or slow down it will clear the carb and continue running just fine.it has oil in the bottom of the breather case. what do you think is causing this? I have checked the compression on it and it is 130lb the mower is a 2001 well maintained

thanks for you time

Bill

Answer
Probably nothing more than a crankcase breather that needs replacement.  Follow the tube from the back of the air filter or carburetor to the crankcase breather on the crankcase.  Some mid-0size Briggs engine you have to pull the flywheel to access it.  Personally, I replace them, whether reed valve or sealed box.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks, PK.
