when i engage the pto to turn on blades the mower dies, is this some kind of safety relay defective if so how can i determine which one?thank you for your time,curt

Yes,  It sounds like your SEAT safety switch may be bad or your PTO switch may be bad. Make sure the switch under the seat is still plugged in.  FOR TESTING PURPOSES only make a jumper wire and jump the unplugged wire and see if the mower still dies after u engage the PTO.  If it does starting investigating the PTO switch.
