Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): starting an unfrozen motor, power washer, spark plug

Question
I have a power washer and ran low on oil. The motor started briefly several times then froze up. I took out the spark plug and put some oil in the spark hole. The engine broke loose, but now will not start. I feel the oil is preventing starting. Please help.

Answer
Pull the spark plug out and make sure it is clean.  Sometimes oil will gather between the tip and the electrode not allowing a spark to jump the gap.  If your plug is fine you may have done enough damage that the engine will not start.

Perhaps the cylinder is scored or galled and there is not enough compression to start the engine.

You have a 50/50 chance of getting an engine to start once it has seized.  (froze up)
