Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): starter just spins, riding lawn mower, ace hardware

i have a 12hp 7 speed 42 inch cut riding lawn mower. on the frame it says ace hardware. they said it ran it just needed a new battery and to extend the power wire to the starter.i did and as soon as i plug the positive side to the battery the starter just spins without the key in the ignition.what do i do could you please help.

Follow you positive wire from the battery. It should go to one side of the solenoid, not straight to the starter. Another power wire should go from the other side of the solenoid to the starter. If it still does the same thing, try replacing the solenoid.
