I'm trying to get this mower going, but the engine barely cranks even when jumping it. I took the spark plugs out but it still had difficulty cranking, but not nearly as much. Also the plugs didn't spark at all. I'm  not sure if this is enough to go on, but any insight you could offer would be much appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like to me that you have a weak starter for one. Most auto parts stores can check it for you. Is the engine turning fast enough to produce spark and are the safety switches working properly.
Hopefully this will give you a starting point.
