Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Push mower engine shuts off, float bowl, bowl style

Question
B&S push mower engine with pull rope.  Prime engine with primer bulb and it starts up but immediately shuts off like it's not getting fuel.  If I prime and start and keep pumping primer bulb it keeps running.  What's the problem?  Thanks for the help.

Very common problem.  Dirty carburetor.  If you have a float bowl style carb you can try draining the carb fuel bowl by removing the float bowl nut on the bottom of the carburetor.  Make sure the hole in the fuel bowl nut is clean.

If you still have the same problem you will have to remove and clean the carburetor.

If you have a pulsa-prime carb there are several videos on You Tube that show you how to clean those carburetors.
