Lincoln/Mercury Repair: sensor problem?, 1997 ford taurus, ford taurus

Question
Hi I have a 1997 ford taurus. My problem is after driving for 20 mins or so. The speedometer quits working, the odometer does not work and the power steering is non existent and car does not want to shift correctly. Can you please help me???? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Lynette,

You have a bad speed sensor. The computer in your car controls, amoung other things, your power steering and transmission. If the computer doesn't know how fast your going it won't know to turn on the power steering or when to shift the transmission. I suggest taking it to a transmission center for this repair because they will be able to diagnose the problem correctly. Cottman Transmission will look at it for free if you have one in your area. cottman.com for a center near you. Hope this helps!
