Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Making sure my ignition coil is broken, jumper cables, blow 40

Question
I got a broken tractor-lawnmower for free and I want to fix it and make a go-cart out of it. I'm assuming there's an electrical problem since the engine doesn't move at all when the ignition is turned on.

I'm not sure of the ignition coil's model since it has no markings nor manual, but I think its just the average coil with the 2 outer leads and one center lead. I disconnected the coil from all connections and used a multimeter on the 200ohm resistance mode to test the connections. I tested the connection between the 2 outside leads and each outside lead with the center lead. Each time I received no reading.

Just wanted to verify that I tested correctly and the coil is indeed broken before I blow $40 on a new one.

Answer
try putting the coil back on the tractor and then turn the key to the on position and then run jumper cables from your car/and hook the neg. terminal coming from your car to the tractor frame. Then touch the pos. terminal to the side of the starter where the red wire connects! At this point your engine should turn over and if the coil is bad you will have no spark, but if its good it should start your machine!
