Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): switching bodys, briggs and stratton, briggs and stratton, yard man

Question
I recently put a briggs 10A902 engine on a different model lawn mower.  The engines are slightly different, but not by much. I looked at the shaft that connects to the blade and it looked exactly the same.  Now it seems like the blade is pretty high off of the ground. I am not sure if it is just this model of lawn mower or if the shaft is actually shorter.  The model I put it on is I think a yard man and it has the rounder sides and is higher off of the ground compared to the body I took the engine from. They did look exactly the same though, so I am wondering if it is just how the mower is. I have to get a new blade because it is really shot, but with a very old blade, I had to lower it all the way down just to be able to cut the grass.  I am not sure if it's because the blade is so bad or if it is not low enough to the ground. All other briggs mowers that I have looked at seem to have the blade pretty close to the ground, this one is probably five inches or so off of the ground. I am not sure if this engine is capable of being on this mower or not, any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much for your time and have a great night!

Answer
When changing engines the main thing you have to do is measure the length of the crankshaft, to make sure the shaft is the correct length.

A couple of options you have is to either try smaller wheels or find a different blade adapter.  Blade adapters that lower the blade can be found a most shops or online.
