Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tractor oil, john deere tractor, automobile oil

I just bought a John Deere tractor, do I have to buy their oil and filters or can I use automobile oil and filters instead  Is tractor oil different then what I put in my car?

Auto filters will be fine...just have to find the cross reference part number.

As for oil, there is very little, if any difference between auto oil and John Deer oil.  However, make sure you follow the Owner's manual recommended oil visocity.

We use bulk auto oil in the shop.
