Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine trouble, solenoid switch, blue smoke

Question

"I have a lawn mower model 445677 type 0413 E1 code 050316YG
This summer some times when I would first start  the engine
it would run for about 2o min. and then stop then it would start right up, other times I would have to wait a few min. and it would start and then it might run for an hour before it would stop. sometimes I could make it run longer if I pulled the chock out a little, but after a while it would stop. I thought it might be water in the gas so I draind the tank. blew air threw the lines and new filter, put new gas in the tank and it did the same thing all over again. Could it be in the ignition or magneto?is there a way to test for it? I tested the auto shut off under the carb. and it semed to test ok.  Thanks for any information ... Gene

       Follow up .
First I checked the tank cover and it works fine. Then I tested the solenoid switch and it pops up and down with the ignition switch.,so while I had the solenoid off I put a 3/4 “ bolt in the bottom of the carb and tried to start the engine, but it would not, so I put a 5/8” bolt in and it started
and seemed to run fine. I mowed for about an hour and it did not stop. I then put the solenoid back on and ran the mower for about two hours and it seemed to run fine except under load it sounds funny,  like it has a flutter and I smell gas when I was mowing. There also was blue smoke from  around where the exhaust is and a oilie gas residue where the exhaust hits a pan. I checked the oil level and it showed  that it had about a pint of extra oil, which must be gas getting in the oil. How and Why is gas getting in the oil???? It only gets gas in the oil when running,  not when it is shut down. Thanks again for any help…..Gene

Answer
You need to remove and dismantle the carb, and clean thoroughly,
and check the float for cracks, and probably replace the needle.
Once you cure the flooding problem, you need to change the oil so you don't damage it.
The solenoid just shuts off the fuel when you turn the key off to prevent a large bang in the muffler.
