Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): rear wheels on troy-bilt mower, rear wheels, troy bilt

while mowing on troy-bilt model #13AP609G063 the rear wheels suddenly locked up.  the drive belt is fine.  the pulley on transmission won't turn. is there any hope for a repair as money is tight.

It could just be the brake.  On the top of the transaxle on the right-hand side is the brake assembly.  Have someone work the brake while you watch it to see how it works.  It should have 2 brake pads, only one moves.  It's not unusual for the brake to hang up and need to be disassembled and cleaned.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks, PK.
