Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Best storage method, storage method, stroke engine

Question
Hi John, I am a user of Yamaha ET 950 generator. This generator is come with a two stroke engine. I usually starts it once every week to avoid carburator been plug by varnish. Is it a necessary good practise? Currently after reading your Q&A session over this website, I do notice there is two way to store an engine for a longer period, which is using stabilazer or running engine dry and die off by it self. Which way will be the better way? If let say i would like to store an engine for 1 month, and i will start the engine once a month for keeping everythings fine, which method shall i use so that my engine life span will be maximize?

Thanks for any help.

Answer
Stabilizer is not all that it is cracked up to be, and just starting the engine once a month doesn't change the age of the fuel in the tank, as you can guess I am a fan of running it dry.  Most generator problems are from sitting with old gas, and any more, gas can go bad in a month or so.
