Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler 26 HP V-Twin, pop pop pop, spark plug wire

Question
I have a Kohler 26HP on my lawnmower and for some reason it seems to run really rough. It pops and seems like it only is running on one cylinder. I went out and bought a new coil and did not seem to make a difference, both coils seem to put out good spark, Checked the fuel and drained it all and put super and still the same POP POP POP, How do you check the timing on it?  I also disconected the Black wire on the coil that goes to the Key was told they short out at times and no change.  The motor has about 80 hours on it. Cleaned the carb as well  Checked the fuel filter as well and have good flow.

Answer
Lets check both cylinders one by one

Step one:  With the engine turned off pull off one spark wire, Does the engine start?  Shut the engine off as you know now the CYLINDER WITH THE PLUG WIRE STILL attached is a Strong working cylinder. Shut the engine off, reattach the plug wire.

Step Two:  With Engine still turned off disconnect the OTHER spark plug wire and see if the tractor will start.  If it does not start you have determined that you have only one good cylinder.

TIP  you can also do this test by checking compression in each cylinder with a compression tester.

Good luck let me know what you find.
