Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Fuel pump, electric fuel pump, 12v electric fuel pump

Question
Hi Dave, me again (10 or 12hp Kohler). I got the engine but now there is a problem with the fuel pump. The guy said the carb and fuel pump would need rebuilt. I took the ones off of my old engine because I knew they were good. Everything was fine for about 10min then the engine quit. It turned out the fuel pump stopped working. No problem, I had one from another engine so I put it on. It quit after a few 5mim. After taking them apart I found that the tab on the inside that pushes the diagram up and down had broken off on both of them. I took the one that came on the engine and noticed the lever that rides on the cam was a little shorter than the others. I took a diagram out of one of the broken ones and put it in the pump and put it on. After about an hour the pump broke again. What am I doing wrong?? There is only one way this can go on, right?. I don't want to buy one and have it break as well or can I put a 12v electric fuel pump on this and if so what do I look for in PSI? Hope you can help, Robert.

Answer
you can put an electric fuel pump on yes,  I am unable to give you any psi suggestions,

Unfortunately im stuck with why its breaking.  The fuel pump is the same for both the Kohler 10 and 12 hp.  IS there something sticking perhaps? Can you email me a picture showing me what you re talking about.

Thanks
