Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs and Stratton re-build, briggs and stratton, briggsandstratton

Question
Hi, David, thanks for taking my question.
I am about to undertake my first motor overhaul since high
school over 30 years ago. I know the basics and am pretty
handy, but i am wondering if you can recommend a good
repair manual to help me through the process. I have found
some on the internet, but most have really bad reviews
about not being very thorough or detailed. I have the motor
apart and it needs rings real bad. It was burning oil like
crazy. The head, piston and valves are really gunked up
with carbon and burned oil. I have cleaned it up for the
most part but i want to put it back together proper after i
do the valve job and replace the rings. The motor is a
Briggs and Stratton 10 HP lawn mower engine. Model: 256707
Type: 0105-01.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Have
bigger plans to start working up to building a hot rod, but
want to start small to get my practice up. I can afford to
mess up a small lawn mower motor for now!! Hah Hah.

Answer
I dont think your model number is right, please re check it.   Get an actual Genuine Briggs and Stratton manual from their website or your local library.

Here is the link to the briggs website.
