Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John deere stx38 yellow deck transaxle, transmission id, transaxle

Question
On a John deere stx38 yellow deck with 5 speed transmission ID# MOOSTXB125638 the pulley on top of the transaxle stops turning causing the motion drive belt to burn against the engine pulley in the frontas long as the engine is running and the clutch is not taking tension off of the belt.  If I take the belt off2gy76 I can turn the pulley a little the other way but then it also stops turning.  Of course the mower won't move forward or backwards.  Before this occurred the forward gears worked but reverse gear did not work. If I can get the transaxle off the machine is this something I can get a part for and repair without buying a whole new transaxle?  The engine and deck are in great shape and I hate to scrap the mower.
thanks for any help.

Answer
Hello Charles:

>>From your Description it Sounds like the Transaxles Internal Drive Chain has Broken and is Locking up the Transaxle.
>>You can Remove the Transaxle from the Unit and then Crack the Case Open and Locate the Broken Component that is Binding the Transaxle.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers STX38 and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. *You can Drag the View Windows for Better Viewing.* Select the Power Train, Steering and Brakes File. Then Select the Transaxle that is in your Unit.
>>Parts are Still Avaliable for this Transaxle and Unit.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
