Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Replacing garden tractor oil filter, old screwdriver, elbow grease

Question
What do I need to do to replace the oil filter on my Sears Lawn Tractor, Model No. 917.275662, purchased new in 2005? This is a Kohler Courage engine. I can't get the filter to unscrew from its mounting.  I tried removing the bolt above it but that did not help. The replacement oil filter number is 52 050 02.  Thanks.

This type of oil filter just screws off,I have enclosed a picture for you to see the break down.Sometimes they are on too tight and just need a lot of elbow grease. Make sure you turn the filter clockwise to come off. When you put the new filter on just hand tight until snug then a small turn this will keep it from leaking and next time it will come off easier. Also you may want to take a big channel lock and use that if all else fails push a old screwdriver into the filter and use that for leverage. This is a messy way to do this so get plenty old old rags.
