Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 4.0 engine wont run, lawn mower parts briggs & Stratton model number discountonlineparts lawnmower parts

Question
I have a Toro self propelled mower with a Tecumseh 4.0 engine.  After priming, the engine will start and run for a few seconds and then shut down.  I had the mower in a repair shop late last summer for this problem.  A new carburetor was installed, new air filter, new spark plug.  Now I have the same problem again. Any suggestions?

Hi Dan, it seems that the engine is starving for gas, clean the carb jets well and try again.  If this doesnt help, then your gas cap could be sealing and not venting air.  Loosen the gas cap and try to run it.  If it runs, the cap is not venting the fuel tank which should be replaced.  We should have the correct lawn mower gas cap at http://www.discountonlineparts.com/lawnmower/
