Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman lawn tractor wont start, craftsman sears AYP lawn mower parts discountonlineparts lawnmower parts switch ignition coil

Question
My neighbor has a Craftsman lawn tractor that has started for years. Now when key is turned nothing happens not even a click. Battery is good. All wires are tight, solenoid has juice to one post from battery but turning the key no juice comes out the other side. I don't know if its the starter switch thats bad or the solenoid. How do I check?

Answer
Hi Dave, check the solenoid's ground. If the solenoid is grounded then check the starter switch. It is possible that the switch is bad and the solenoids activation wire is not getting juice to the solenoid. To check, take a small jumper wire from the hot lead of the battery to the small lug on the solenoid body (where the activation wire is attached) and listen for the click. If none the solenoid is dead and should be replaced. If it clicks, then it is the ignition switch which you will need to replace.  We carry a many switches and solenoids in stock.  If you need the solenoid you should be able to find the correct on at this address : http://www.discountonlineparts.com/lawnmower/?c=Ignition&sc=Solenoids&b=AYP%20/%...

If you find that you need to replace your switch then you should be able to find the correct one at this address: http://www.discountonlineparts.com/lawnmower/?c=Ignition&sc=Ignition%20Switches&...

This you do not find the correct one please call us and we should be able to get the correct one for you.  You might need to have the OEM part number or the model number of the mower.  Thank you and have a great weekend!
