Connecting Block
ANSWER: Hello Charles...

I am attaching a picture as I think this is the part you are describing.  It is called a Connecting Block.  Let me know if this is the part, where in the country you are located and I will help you find a place to buy the part.

Answer
Charlie:

A Honda Connecting block will fit on your engine.  The part number is 16211-ZF6-D40  Honda Code 3750882.  Look in your telephone book under engines gasoline for a Honda dealer in your area.  IF this does not work contact the Honda Engines distributor in your state: Smith Distributing Co, Oklahoma City OK 73107  PH 405-947-6484 or e-mail rlayman@swbell.net

As long as your at it tell them you want new gaskets for it as well.  If this does not work let me know and I will find another source for you.

Have fun fixing your generator!

PS  When you get it fixed, be sure to exercise it by running it and loading it at least with 2500 watts of draw for 20 minutes.  Put some Fuel stabilizer in it while your running it and after you have exercised it for 20 minutes or so, turn the fuel off and run the carb dry of fuel.  This will assure easy starting next time you use it.

In the real world you are supposed to exercise a generator once a month.  Ya right!
