Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): chain saw bar length, jason holt, chain saw bar

Question
Hi,this may sound like a stupid question but I'm having a hard time finding the right size chain to replace the old one on my Homelite 240 chain saw. How are you supposed to measure the bar length correctly to find the length of the bar/chain.Please help me thank you Jason Holt

Answer
Hello Jason:

>>I was Raised to Believe that the Only Stupid Question was One that a Person had but Did Not Ask.
>> Using a Ruler, Set the the Ruler at the Suspected Length (14", 16", 18" ect) at the Tip of the Bar. You should have 1/4' to 1/2" of the Ruler going Past the Front of the Bar Adjustment Slot. This will give you the Bar Length for that Saw.
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck

Hello Again Jason:

>>I Failed to Mention, you have to Purchase the Chain and the Bar for your Saw Model. There are Different Bar Widths and the Chains are Cut to Match these Different Width Bars.
>>You can Use a Wide Bar on a Saw that has a Thin Bar, but the Chain Length Used will be Different Due to the Change in the Width of the Bar.
>>I Apologize for the Mistake. I am Kind of Busy and should have Included this in my First Response.
>>Thanks for Using All Experts.
