Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Water Pump LX188, model units, impellers

Question
Hi John

How do I get access to or remove the water pump on a JD LX188 lawn mower.  Do I need to remove the entire motor?

I have been having lots of problems with the mower overheating and I noticed that when I removed the radiator and ran the machine there was no movement of water in the pipes.  So I suspect the water pump is not working.

Cheers

Justin

Answer
Hello Justin:

>>From your Description it Sounds like the Impellers of the Water Pump are Gone.
>>I Suggest you Use (I Use this in Al of my Equipment) DexCool Antifreeze in this Engine. It Causes Less Damage to the Water Pump and Other Components that the Antifreeze has Contact with.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers LX188 and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. *You can Drag the View Windows for Better Viewing.*
>>I have Found it Easier to Remove the Engine on these Model Units when Replacing/Repairing the Water Pump.
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
