QUESTION: 1. John Deere Service Dept. checked everything...said fluids were correct levels, then new traction belt and drive pulley on the transmission have been installed....now they are scratching their heads as to what the problem is.     2.  The 2003 mower has 360 hours, and I have taken good care of it with preventive maintenance, oil changes, etc.  The first indication that something was not right is that in reverse the mower strained to move.  As time went on, it would not go forward up an incline after getting hot every time consistently, so I replaced the traction belt but this did not help.  So, I  had to take it to the John Deere place, and they replaced the pulley, which did not help.  Then, I took it back to the John Deere place, and they drove it around and said it ran fine, but was it getting hot?... The mower runs fine until it gets hot.

Answer
I doubt the problem is with the belt.  Usually the problem you described is an adjustment with the speed control linkage or an indication of a more serious transmission problem.  Can you find the make/manufacture and model number of the transmission and I will check to see if any service bulletins have been posted.
