Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Who Made Mid 70s Tillers For J.C. Penneys, recommended lubricant, j c penney

Question
QUESTION: I own a J.C. Penney 8hp B&S 26" chain driven tiller.  It is yellow in color and the model number is 190402, type 083101, code 76021211. The tiller has 3 fwd speeds, a neutral and a reverse.
1. Who made this tiller?
2  Are there dealers who have parts for it?
3. Is there a diagram of the tiller?  I found a B&S
4. Is there an adjustment for the tension on the chains.
5. What is the recommended lubricant for the chain assembly?
I have a picture of this tiller if it will help in identifying it.

ANSWER: Hello Sim:

>>**The Model Numbers you have Sent me are for the Engine, Not the Tiller Model.
1- The OEM.
>>This was Made by Allis-Chalmers (Simplicity). Allis-Chalmers Purchase Simplicity Sometime in 1965.
2/A- Dealers for Tiller Parts.
>>You can Use the Site Addys at this Site Addy; http://www.yetmans.mb.ca/antiques.html to Search and Locate New/Used Parts for this Unit.
2/B- The Engine Parts.
>>Most Small Engine Service Centers have the Engine Parts or can Order them if Required.
3/A- A Breakdown of the Tiller.
>>You can View a Breakdown of the Unit at this Site Addy, http://www.jackssmallengines.net/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab and Enter the OEM and the Model Numbers. Now Double Click on your Model in the Results Area.
3/B- The Engine Breakdown.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Example: 190402-0831-01. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select Sectional Index. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View.
4- Chain Adjustment.
>>Depending on the Model of the Tiller, there May be a Chain Adjustment.
>>Send me the Model Numbers Off the Unit, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you.
5- Is this a Wet Chain Drive or a Dry Chain Drive Unit?
>>If a Dry Chain Drive Unit, then SAE 20W50 Engine Oil can be Use to Lubricate the Chain.
>>A Picture May Assist me in Identifying this Unit, but a Model Number would be Helpful.
>>This Site Addy May Assist you Also; http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/techpubsearch.php?f_dsprslt=true&f_mfgno=16948  .

QUESTION: Hi John,

The number that I found on the chain case is 3032 8.  Attached is a picture of this tiller.  The Simplicity site did not accept the OEM that was (see above) that was attached on a metal plate on the chain housing.

Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hello Again Sim:

>>This Unit May be Newer than I Originally Thought.
>>Is the ID Tag Still Located on the Unit. It should have Numbers Similar to this; 148-842-101. Those Model Numbers are Off a 1988 Model Pennys Tiller.
>>I Will Research this More on Monday and See if I can Locate Any More Information from my Contacts at the OEMs.
