Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine Wiring, briggs and stratton, starter solenoid

Question
Hi John

I have a B & S engine.  Model 422400 to 433499 series.  I have a small wire
on the top front of the engine and a red wire coming out from underneath
the back of the engine.  Where do I terminate each of these two wires.  I have
no wiring harness.  This engine is on a 24 wheel vehicle which I am restoring
for a museum.

Thanks

Answer
Hello Ralph:

>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File #42 . Then Select the Folder #422400 that Matches the Type Numbers Off the Engine.
>>The Red Wire should be a Charging Wire and the Black Wire should be a Coil/Point Set Grounding Wire.
>>Remove the Blower Housing (Metal Engine Cover).
>>If Both Wires go Under the Flywheel; to be Sure (I Do Not Trust Small Engine Color Codes) you are Connecting the Wires Correctly; Remove the Flywheel.
>>The Wire to the Point Set is Connected to the Kill Switch or Shut Off Switch on the Throttle Control Bracket (depends on engine model) and the Other Wire from the Charging Coils/Stator is Connected to the Battery Side of the Starter Solenoid.
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
