Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MANUAL VS AUTOMATIC, core aerators, acre pasture

Question
I  pull one of those  $200 core aerators weighted with blocks behind my Murray 17 HP around our 2 acre pasture. The Murray 6 speed handled the aerator without issue. We are about to replace the Murray after a decade of service, and I need to know if a manual or Hydrostatic transmission would be more durable in a Twin Cylinder machine. Would any of the brands have a more durable transmission for our harsh treatment?

Answer
Hello Gordon:

>>For Serious Yard Maintenance a Homeowner May Perform, I Prefer a JD, Toro or Heavy Duty MTD Ride On Mower. For Commericial Use there are Several Good Brands Also.
>>The Design of the Hydrostatic/Hydromatic Transaxles are as Good as or Better than the Standard Transaxles. If you Purchase a Unit with a Hydro Transaxle, make Sure you Purchase 1 with a Reservoir and Filter on the Hydro. These seem to give Better Performance than the Hydro's without the Filter and Reservoir.
