Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 1999 yamaha 600 grizzly blowing a fuse, continuity test, fuse holder

Question
around my battery there are 2 fuses..10A & 20A on diff. positive leads..as soon as i turn my ign key the 10A blows...

it started when i was riding one day and noticed that the headlights got dim for a second..then the dash lights all came on (even reverse while i was driving 50km/h forward)..

once i shut the bike off..it never started again...weird thing is..i can take out the 10A fuse altogether and the bikes seemingly works perfect, starts rides etc...im just cautious that that 10A fuse allows power for something im not noticing like the oil cooler fan or transmission?

any ideas..

p.s. - i taken all accessories off teh bike including winch, 12V aux plug, etc...and with this 10A fuse out and the other left in..everything works even when bike is off..headlights, 4x4 switch, starter, etc...what is that other fuse conneected to?

Hello Justin:

>>You can View a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.xtremepowersports.com/ATV_Parts__Where_America_goes_/atv_parts__where... . Select OEM Parts Diagrams at the Left of the Page where you See the Yamaha Logo. Then Follow the Directions to View a Breakdown/IPL of this Unit Online.
>>I Suggest you Use a Multimeter and Check the Harness for a Bare/Pinched Wire.
>>Is the Battery still being Charged when the Unit is Running?
>>Is the Cooling Fan Working Properly.
>>On Most of these ATVs the 10amp Fuse is for the Cooling Fan. Use the Multimeter and Perform a Continuity Test on the Cooling Fan. Disconnect the Cooling Fan and Check the Continuity between the 10amp Fuse Holder and the Cooling Fan Connection. This should Tell you if the Fuse is for the Cooling Fan. I will Research this more Today and Follow Up to you if I get More Information.
