Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ariens replacement engine, hp briggs, kawasaki engine

Question
I'd like to get a replacement engine for my Ariens snowthrower model 22999. I recently brought it in for service and the crankshaft was found to be buggered up due to a loose nut on the end. It currently has an HS40 engine (techumsen?). Can you make any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Robert:

>>Any Horizontal Shaft Engine of the Same or Slightly Larger HP that has the Same Crankshaft Length, Diameter and has the Same Keyway in the Crankshaft will Replace this Engine. Example: Usually a 4 to 6 HP Briggs, Kohler, Honda or Kawasaki Engine will Replace this Engine.
>>You can View a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.jackssmallengines.net/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. The Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Ariens) and Enter the Model Numbers (Example: 22999-000001). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select the Sectional File. Now you can View the Section of the Mower that Pertains to this Repair.

Hello Again Robert:

>>I Forgot to Tell you, Remember to Check the Engine Mount Holes also. Make Sure the Replacement Engines Match the Old Engines Mounting Holes. Thanks.
