Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): toro backfire, videoi, opnion

Question
QUESTION: Hello John,
We talked a couple days ago about my Toro ccr2000 backfiring
On my Toro ccr2000, I removed the muffler and it is in very good shape. I removed it when it was running,  and there was no change. I also put a fresh 50:1 mix gas in.Here is a Youtube link to a videoI took of my machine as it was backfiring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGZVu7qG800
I hope this helps and that you can give me another idea of why this is backfiring.
Thanks for all your help,    Gary

ANSWER: Hello Again Gary:

I Believe this was a Toro Model 38180. Thanks for the YouTube Link. I never thought of Using youtube the Way you have. Thanks. 1- Have you Changed the Magneto Module? This Sounds like the Magneto Module is in the Process of Going Bad. I will Play this for the Shop Mechanics and Get their Opnion also. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

QUESTION: Hello again John,

As you noticed with my youtube video it backfires with or without the muffler on. The magneto module was checked and is OK. I noticed that when it was backfiring I sprayed a little carb cleaner in the  intake and it immediately stoped backfiring for a few seconds, Does this mean something? It looks like i'm back to square 1, When I first started this adventure my first hunch was carb I'm out of ideas to fix this. Please help Thanks Gary

Answer
Hi Again Gary:

If Using a Small Amount of Spray Carburetor Cleaner in the Carburetor Throat while the Engine is Running and the Engine Runs Without a Miss, then the Carburetor is Still the Cause for the Miss. Sometimes you May have to Soak a Carburetor 2 or Three Times to Completely Remove the Varnish, but it is Unusall for this to Happen if the Carburetor was Soaked Overnight. This Engine is Slightly Starved for Enough Gas to Run Properly. You have One of those Problems where the Engine Backfires Instead of Surging/Hunting  Up and Down. Most Times an Engine will Surge/Hunt Instead of Backfire. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps.
