Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine Smoking, hp briggs, oil engines

Question
I overfilled my 8 HP Briggs engine on my snow blower with oil. Ever since it smokes whitish blue. Is there an easy fix?

Thanks Tom

Answer
Did you remove the excess oil?  When over-filled oil engines run some of the excess oil gets into the muffler causing to to smoke.

If you removed the excess oil and have the correct amount of oil in the engine you should be fine.  The fastest way to reduce the smoke is to replace the muffler...but this is expensive.  You can remove the muffler and soak it in parts cleaner to help dissolve the oil.  Cleaning the muffler should help reduce the smoking.
