Tips on Buying Cars: salvaged car, salvage title, 1987 honda accord

Question
I just bought a 1987 honda accord lx-i at an auction for 250 dollars. I found out as I was driving down the street that the transmission does not go in reverse. I also found out LATER at the dmv that the car has a salvage title. The car has 224,000 miles on it. My question is should I get rid of it now or would it be worth it to spend money to fix the transmission and possible axle (it makes a noise when i make turns)

Answer
Wow- I didn't think you could still buy ANY car for just $250!  You ask a question that no one can answer with any certainty- you could fix the tranny and drive it a year or two with no problems, or you could start pouring thousands of dollars into it next week.  The noise it makes when turning could be minor or major; your best bet is to take the car to a local mechanic and have him look at it BEFORE you make any repairs.  He still can't answer your question, but he can at least tell you what repairs it needs and how much they'll cost.  Only you can decide if the money spent will be worth it.
