Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): john deere 160 w/cutting deck and snowthrower, john deere 160, hp briggs

Question
Hi,
I am thinking about buying a 10 years old John Deere 160 that has l has kawasaki 13 hp (1-cyl gasoline) motor,38 in snowthrower,38 inch mowing deck ,chains and weightsawn. I am happy with the lawn mower I have and need the tractor to push and move the snow from my driveway that has gravoles. Is 160 powerfull enough to move snow around?  Thanks,  Jamal

Answer
Hello Jamal:

Any Size Engine will Move the Snow Around. The Determining Factors are; 1- The Amount of Snow/Gravel you are Pushing. 2- Can the Unit Keep Traction when Moving the Amount of Snow/Gravel you Plan to be Pushing. I have an Older (35yrs Old) Tractor that I Use for Pushing Gravel and it has a 10 HP Briggs engine and is Heavy Enough to Move Gravel/Snow with Little to No Problems. However, if I Try to Move too Much at a Time, the Unit will Lose Traction. A Larger Engine/Power Plant May give the Tractor More HP, but if the Unit Does Not have the Weight, then you will Still Only be Able to Move the Same Amount of Snow/Gravel as the Smaller HP Engine/Power Plant. JD and Other OEMs Build their Units to have the Maximum HP Engine that will Power the Unit for the Applications it May be Used. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers 160 and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. You should Not have Any Problems Moving Snow/Gravel with this Unit Once you have Mastered How Much you can Grade with the Blade and Not Slip the Drive Wheels. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
