Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Poulan Pro Blower PBV200, piston head, starter fluid

Question
OK... Here is where I am at now...

I took the cylinder head off and looked at the piston... It is scored pretty good on the one side.  It also scored the inside of the cylinder.  Looks like the lean fuel blew up the motor... Do I have to replace the cylinder as well as the piston head?

Also when I replace the piston what should I use to lubricate when I put it back together?
Thanks again for your help,

I am getting a spark... I grounded plug and have a clean spark.  Should I get a good carb/choke cleaner? Maybe instead of too lean maybe I added too much oil to the original mixture... I think it all goes back to the gas/oil.  The blower was running fine until I mixed a new batch of gas.

Thanks again

-----Question-----
I installed a brand new plug and poured out the old gas and remixed a new batch as the manufacturer recommends at 40:1.  I also bought starter fluid and sprayed it into the carb.  Is it possible that the On/off switch is somehow grounding out the magneto?  (This is what I was told at the hardware store on Saturday)
But it still will not crank. It won't even sputter...
The new plug is getting kind of gunked up and it hasn't even been used while the blower was running.

-----Question-----
I grounded the plug and it does create a spark. Originally I replaced the plug thinking this was the problem... It was pretty gunked up. Does this mean the engine is blown? If so, what do I need to replace to rebuild the engine?

Thanks again for your help...

I have had my Poulan Pro blower for roughly a year.  Had not experienced any problems until this weekend.  I read a previous question from someone that was having problems with the same blower and you suggested to pull the spark plug and attach it back to the plug wire to see if there was a spark.  Mine is not sparking... Could it be the magneto?  I heard those are very rare to go out.  Also I have read that if you run these blowers lean, that it will fry the engine.  This weekend I mixed a new batch of gas and it may have been a little lean.  But this would not cause it not to spark now...Right?  I heard a clicking noise while it was running before the engine stopped. I hate to spend the money to have it rebuilt but if it is just the magneto it won't be that expensive.

Thanks for your help,

to check the spark,  make sure the plug is grounded to the engine block in  some manner, or there will not show spark.
meaning wire on  plug,  and plug housing grounded to engine. as far as clicking that may have been the recoil clickers. make sure your fuel is of proper mix, and try again.  you just may need a carb. adjustment.  check your spark again as i,ve told you and get back to me with results.

not really  on a 2 cycle the plugs do at times get dirty.  because of the oil mixture in fuel.
you need to either check your fuel mix,  and use the right oils in the mix also means alot.   on these things there is no room for mistakes on fuel mix.  not enough oil in fuel  they will burn up !!!! too much  they will smoke like mad, and gum up plugs, and not run  good at all!!!  check these things out, and let me know how you make out.  as for what your ratio should be?  that  differs from models,  a rule of thumb i use is 40x1 mix.

i,m not quite following.  your new pull from trying to start is getting wet with fuel? and it is not even trying?
have you tried to check for spark? as was mentioned earlier.
remove plug, hook up wire to plug, ground the plug housing not the electrode !! the housing of plug to engine block , pull over engine and watch plug for spark while it is grounded to engine.  you need to be brave here, unless you want to spend money on a shop type igntion tester, if you hold only the plug housing to engine>DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE!! as you pull it over you will get spark if all is well and not get a shock.  if no spark is there, you need to check for switch grounding out coil. if that checks okay> your magnetto did go bad.  i,d say disconnect all wires at this point from switch to check  if you have spark.

If it was running fine before you installed a new mix? i,d say at this point  empty that mix. use it up in a yard tractor or lawn mower. it will not hurt that  for once in awhile. may give off alittle smoke til its gone,  but down just waste it.
make up a new mix. less oil, and what  they want.  40-1..   32-1..... 50-1....  ?  and start over.  i believe from what i hear from you,  you may have messed up with mix.

Answer
it should come as a kit.   cyclinder and piston.
if it don,t?  you need to hone cylinder, and replace rings. but i,d recomend you get it together neww for then you know piston is not out of round,  and proper rings  match cylinder.
toby>>>>>>  you may find it may be of less exspence to just replace the blower with another and use it for parts.
