Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn boy 824E, assembly drawings, drive components

Question
John, I have been having trouble with the drive belt ( traction ) snapping. I replaced it once, and it snapped within 1/2 hr. I own a 824E Lawn Boy Modle# 28232, Ser#220002433 8 HP. The Idler pulley seems to be O.K. The one thing I noticed was that the entire pulley and shaft moves in both directions ( side-to-side & front-back )about 1/8 in. Is this normal?     Thanks in advance with any help

Answer
Hello Kevin:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm?xCaller=LawnBoy 28232 and Select Start Parts Viewer. Then Enter the Model Numbers and Click Search. Then Select View Assembly Drawings. Then Select the Component you Wish to View. Their should Not be that Much Movement in the Pulley and Shaft. Using the Breakdown, can you Direct me to the Pulley you are Speaking of. If it is Pulley # 11 in the Upper Traction Assy Breakdown, then Check the Bolt # 12 and Make Sure it is Not Worn. If Worn, then Replace it. Check the Entire Upper and Lower Drive Components and Make Sure they are Moving Freely. You can have a Triangle Bearing that is Binding and Causing Stress and Wear on the Belt or The Idler Pulley is Shifting Side to Side and Causing this Problem. Are you Using the Correct Width Belt? If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
