QuestionTroy bilt 5500 portable generator with B&S 10HP OHV model 01919 engine, ran fine for last two nights,( power outage from snow storm in Louisiana!), shut off while running this morning. Checked fuel, carb, plug, coil. There is no compression when using pull rope and valve does not seem to be working correctly. Any ideas ?
AnswerI'd say you need to remove the valve cover then slowly pull the rope with the spark plug wire of so it doesn't start, look at the valves while doing so, might need a helper to give you a hand. Check that both valves are fully opening and closing as the engine is turned over. If not I have been able with a soft faced hammer, or block of wood to tap on them and free them up before..........Tom
You'll need to remove the motor now and check the cam gear inside the oil sump pan.......Tom
