Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman - snowblower (3 years old), craftsman snowblower, sediment bowl

Question
I have a problem starting my machine. It started OK in the fall. I had used pull-cord then. I tried and had no success. I tried with electric start with same results. I have new fuel, spark plug. I have a good spark and fuel flow and I drained sediment bowl. It won't even sputter.  Everything turns and light turns on when I use electric start but do not have any ignition. Thanks

Answer
Steve I picked up your question from the answer pool after reading it, maybe I can help you out. I ran into a similar problem not too long ago. I had a engine that sat for sometime, and had a dry fuel tank. I never recommend draining a fuel system, and running the carb dry for storage, and I'll tell you why. I always believe in using stabilizer in the fuel instead, it keeps fuel in the system which keeps carb parts lubricated, and moist. Otherwise certain carb parts tend to dry out, and on occasion become sticky from the residue left behind. The last one I saw actually was today, a man drained his tank, and ran the system dry, then stored it for 2 years. When it can into the shop today we filled the fuel, it started right up and ran great. After shutting it off waiting 5 minutes, and trying to re-start it no way would it start without starting fluid and then died right out when it used the starting fluid. Upon taking the carb off and examinig it I found the needle valve to be stuck in the seat. When we first started it the flat was hanging down due to no fuel, and the needle was open and off the seat. Once the engine was shut down and the bowl filled and the needle valve closed, it then stuck to the seat allowing no more fuel to the main jets for it to run. I'm thinking you somehow have a similar issue. If your sure you have a good strong blue snapping spark, and a good flow to the carb your needing the carb cleaned, and maybe rebuilt.......Please rate my answer please it is always so appreciated........ Any further help let me know...Tom
