Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tractor died again, toro wheel horse, assembly drawings

Question
i was recently given a rider with a snow blower that i desperately need to use we had it cranking with the key then it just stopped cranking it would still crank by jumping the solenoid though when i got it home i tried again and finally got it started by pulling the relays and jumping the solenoid it ran for 20 min then died and will not restart and i cant get up my driveway. its a 1995 Toro wheel horse model number 72043 serial number 5900221. please give me some ideas the switch under the seat has been bypassed by the previous owner other then that i believe everything is as should be outside of an air filter, also the battery is bad but has been for years now like i said it was running good and died now nothing

Answer
Hello Anthony:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm and Select Start Parts Viewer. Now Enter the Model Numbers (72043) and Click Search. Now Select View Assembly Drawings for your Year Model. Lets Do Some Diagnostics. From your Description it Sounds like the Ign Module/Coil is Bad and Requires Replacing. 1- Check the Spark Plug for Fire. The Following is a Basic Instruction File I Made for Checking the Coil/Ign Coil/Magnetron on Small Engines. Any Input is Appreciated. **To Check the Ign Coil; Remove the Spark Plug/s. Wrap a Wire Around the Threads of the Plug and Attach the Other End of the Wire to the Engine Block. Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover). The Wire that is Connected to the Coil/Ign Module from the Shut Off Switch needs to be Removed (unplugged) from the Coil/Ign Module. Now Check for Spark at the Plug. If Spark, then the Shut Off Switch or the Wire is Bad. If Still No Spark, then the Coil/Ign Module is Bad. If there is Fire at the Plug with the Shut Off Wire Disconnected and there are Safety Switches on this Unit and the Coil is Good; you Need to Check the Safety Switches for Being Bad Also.** Check the Connections where the Seat Switch has been Bypassed. If the Connection is Bad/Corroded, then you will have the Problem you Described. Also Check the Brake Switch. The Brake Switch May be the Cause of the Ign Key Not Starting the Engine. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
