Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Onan T260G Motor, question pool, onan engines

Question
Hello, I have a MAXX 4 that someone put an onan engine into. The motor runs great with the battery hooked up, but when I disconnect it the motor stalls... I know enough about motors to know that the charging system is not working. There looks to be what might be called a voltage regulator mounted on the motor cover, and there is 2 wires coming from the motor. I am not sure how it is suppose to plug in. The 2 wires coming from the motor have a 3 prong connector at the end of the harness which appears to plug into the regulator, which has 3 prongs coming off of it. The connector looks like its in rough shape, and I am unable to tell which way it should plug into the regulator.

With the battery hooked up and the motor running, I was unable to detect any voltage coming from the motor. I tried to plug in the regulator, and may have plugged it in wrong. I am not sure, however..I was not getting any charge coming back to the battery and am unsure how to wire it.

I would like to know how to wire the Ignition and charging system. I would also like to know what I need to do in regards to the first steps, in repairing it myself.

I just found this web site tonight, and hope I can get this thing fixed before Christmas....

If there is any information you can give me to help it would be greatly appreciated...thanks...

Answer
Hello David:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool and I can Only Answer Questions from the Question Pool when I am Not Answering Questions here or at the Other Site I Answer Questions at. You can get More Information About Onan Engines from this Site Addy; http://www.tulsaenginewarehouse.com/catalog/onan/ and Select 1 of the Engines Listed or Select www.smallengines.cc for Older Units or www.smallenginebusiness.com for Newer Units. From your Description it Sounds like the Stator/Charging Coil is Bad and Requires Replacing. The Connector for the Regulator should have an Alignment Slot on the Regulator and a Matching Bar on the Stator/Charging Coil Connector. Look at the Connector and See if you can Tell on which Side the Bar was Originally. You should be Able to Use the Test at this Site Addy; Most Stators can be Tested Using the Guide at the Following Site Addy; For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs to Check the Stator/Charging Coil on this Engine. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
