Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy-Built Weedeater, center screw, recoil starter

Question
My pull cord is stuck out. I tried adding WD40, but it looks like I am going to have to take it apart to make sure the spring isn't broken. Is there another way, or a simple way to take it apart without destroying the weedeater?

Answer
First remove the recoil starter assembly.  Be sure the rope as not slipped the pulley if it appears to be normal remove the center screw in the pulley and very carefully lift the pulley inspect the back of the pulley where the spring attaches and the spring without taking the spring out of the housing if the spring gets out and unwinds you might as well put a new one if the pulley is broken replace it and reattach it to the housing using the center screw.  Take the rope take the handle off the rope and one tie the knot now the tricky part wind the pulley until it's tight then back it off at least one turn.  Align the hole in the pulley and the hole in the housing and feed the rope through the whole put it through the pulley and out of the housing be sure to tie a knot in the rope first.  Tuck the knot into the pulley.  While still holding tension on the spring tie slip knot in the rope and let the rope go in up to the slipped knot.  Reattach the handle and slip the knot.  I hope this information helps you out.  Please contact us again if you have anymore questions.
