Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): john deere hm80 snow blower, john deere snow blower, carburetor rebuild kit

Question
My old john deere snow blower will idle fine, but once you increase throttle to high it shuts down. After shuts down it drips gas out of the carb at the choke valve...
Do I need new carb or clean? Thank you!!!

Answer
Yes you can clean the carburetor and rebuild it.  Remove the carburetor disassemble and clean every air and fuel passages with a wire from a twist tie blow the passages out with carburetor cleaner or compressed air.  Purchase a carburetor rebuild kit and new mounting gaskets from your dealer.  Follow the instructions in the kit.  Mount using new mounting gaskets.  Reattach throttle and choke cables.  Drain the fuel tank and clean the tank and the fuel cap vent back flush the tank where the fuel comes out to be sure nothing is restricting the fuel flow.  If the fuel line has never been replaced replaced the fuel line if there is an in-line fuel filter replace it noting the arrow on the fuel filter indicating fuel flow.  If there isn't an in-line fuel filter I would suggest putting one in purchase a 75 micron filter and it should do the trick.

When you have the carburetor apart remove the throttle and choke shafts and inspect them for ware if there is noticeable, where in the shafts replaced them.  If the body of the carburetor is wallowed out where the shafts go replace the carburetor.  I hope this information helps good luck on your project.
