Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snow blower, exact model number, plate volts

Question
Hi,
I have a craftsman 3/20 snowblower, Model# 536.884331, idle runs extremely high. How and where do I look for adjustment. I do not have a manual for it and can't seem to find a manual on line.

Answer
You should be able to view your owners manual at www.Searspartsdirect.com.  On the right-hand side of the screen enter your exact model number and click search.  This will take you to your model snow thrower.

I believe your problem is in the governor or the governor spring.  Most of these engines have air veins that control engine speed for some reason yours will not let the carburetor come back to idle by letting the throttle plate close.

Remove the Colling on the snow thrower to get at the engine you will have to remove the blower housing.  The coverts the flywheel.  Once you do this you should see the governor vane.  There will be a link from their to the carburetor throttle plate volts should operate freely.  If this is not it remove the carburetor disassemble it and clean it thoroughly take the small screws out of the throttle plate and remove the throttle shaft and inspect it should move freely.  Install a new carburetor kit and new mounting gaskets.  Clean all fuel passages with a wire from a wire tie and blowout with carburetor cleaner or compressed air.  With the carburetor mounted attach spring and link and work manually the throttle plate should open and close freely.  I hope this information helps good luck on your project if you need more assistance please contact us again.
